The Fall to Vista

Boys basketball suffers a loss to Mountain Vista, losing 77-54

On January 12th, 2023, Castle View high school took on a highly talented Mountain Vista squad. Vista had recently beat Valor who is another highly ranked team within the 6A division. The sabercats had high hopes coming into the game and were ready to play all out no matter the opponent. Senior Eli Nanninga felt ready for this game and understood the skill of Mountain Vista.

“We felt confident and ready to play. They are a skilled basketball team and they proved that in this game. We came into the game not bad but not 100%,” Nanninga Said.

As the game started Vista hit back to back threes leaving the sabercats stunned. To win, Nanninga believed they could have improved on a couple of things. Leaving a couple good shooters open early resulted in a big lead for Vista.

“We needed more effort on both sides of the ball. Our turnovers and laziness on defense cost us most of the game,” Nanninga said.

With a couple of days to practice until their next game, Nanninga and the team knows what they need to work on to improve their play and secure the win in this next game.

“These next couple of days at practice we’re going to put in the work and beat Chaparral on Tuesday. We know we need to limit our turnovers and get good offensive shots in order to win the next game,” Nanninga said.

The next game for the sabercats is Jan 17, 2023 against Chaparral and they are going into this game with high hopes and known corrections that should be made to secure this win.
