Question: What is your name?
Answer: Ryan Steffen
Question: How long have you been teaching for?
Answer: I am into my seventh year teaching, and my sixth in Douglas County.
Question: What is the subject you teach?
Answer: I teach World History, World Geography, US History, US Government, and US
Economics.
Question: Are u native to Colorado?
Answer: I am actually native to Wisconsin. I was born and raised in Wisconsin, and moved out
here after graduating college in 2017.
Question: What is that most interesting thing about you?
Answer: I feel the most interesting thing about me is an “eye of the beholder” type thing. I don’t
feel I do anything extraordinary, but I do genuinely enjoy the things that I do here.
Question: What do you do after your school hours?
Answer: In the after school hours, I am heavily involved with sports. During the football season
and summer, I am almost singularly dedicated to coaching. Outside of that, I try to find time to
attend other events of current and former students and athletes. I was a coach at Ponderosa for
four years before coming here, and I have a crop of former athletes who will be graduating this
week. I will be at the Denver Coliseum this weekend to watch some former athletes compete in
the state basketball tournament in the Great 8. Otherwise I enjoy traveling, dining, reading, and
otherwise enjoy general cliche outdoor Colorado things.
Question: What are your favorite things to do?
Answer: My favorite things to do typically involve spending quality time with my partner,
Meghan. We enjoy traveling, going out socially, playing Smash Ultimate on our Switch, and to
just be around one another. Otherwise on my own I enjoy reading, writing, traveling, and seeing
events and shows, particularly sporting events and comedy shows.
Question: If you could go back and redo it, what job would you be doing instead of teaching?
Answer: If I could go back, I would be right in the place I am right now. I started in school as a
Civil and Environmental Engineer, largely due to outside influences in my life at the time. I
wanted to do what I am doing now, and made a conscious decision to pursue education for my
career. At that same time I got involved in coaching, and will be entering my 11th year coaching
this next fall. I genuinely enjoy what I do, and will continue to do so until I don’t enjoy it, or my
passions take me in another direction.
