The stage was set and the audience silent when the upbeat, happy melody of “Gøta” flowed throughout the packed theater as Red Hot, the jazz choir, kicked off their fall concert.
“From the second they started singing, I knew it was going to be a good concert,” said junior Stephanie Pizio.
The Fall Choir Concert, held September 30, featured many songs by the schools’ choirs. Red Hot, Saber8, Versailles, Saber Singers, Mirinesse, and Voices of the Pride each performed three to four songs ranging from “Ubi Caritas,” a church hymn, to “When I Think Of You,” a tender love song by Laura Farnell.
Castle View shows its great diversity through its many choirs, featuring an all boys group, an all girls group, and mixed gender groups.
“It’s cool how many different types of choirs CV has,” said Pizio. “They all sound amazing and unique in their own way.”
Not all the music was in English, however. Voices of the Pride performed “Tshotsholoza,” a freedom and fight song from South Africa which was sung in all Zulu.
“I was pleasantly surprised at their large variety in songs,” said junior Justin Linenberg. “They had every kind of music you could think of.”
In addition to the singers, there was a rhythm section comprised of a pianist, a drummer and a bassist. One choir member even played the guitar while singing.
“They really complimented each other,” said sophomore Logan Hammen. “Together they made something that sounded good into something that was great.”
The concert was a massive success, receiving a deafening applause from the audience at the end of each song.
“It was a great first concert of the year,” said Heath Walter, the choir director. “Everyone sang great and there was a good overall atmosphere and energy.”
