For 27 athletes from different sports, their Sabercat career may be over. But the athletes, who were honored at a recent signing ceremony, will continue playing at a college level.
The sports range from football to basketball and even to women’s equestrian. They will be attending colleges in Texas, North Carolina, Illinois and the Denver area.
Tennis player Cody Carlton is excited. “The best part about my tennis career is playing for Castle View since sixth grade,” Carlton said.
Many dream about playing on the collegiate level and when the dream comes true, it’s a great feeling.
“I hope younger kids see me as a role model,” said Jontrell Herman, who will play basketball at Johnson and Wales University in Denver. “Hard work really pays off, though.”
Herman’s favorite moment of being a part of Sabercat basketball was this year’s highly anticipated Douglas County rivalry game when teammate Caedon Davis missed a layup and Herman had a tip dunk. It didn’t count, but the basket hyped up the crowd.
Although the athletes are going different places, they know they will always be a Sabercat.
“When you get down and feel all alone, just know your school and your community is with you,” athletic director Derek Cordes said. “And that’s Sabercat strong.”
