The stage was set and the audience silent when the upbeat, jazzy melody of “Don’t Get Around Much Anymore” flowed throughout the packed theater, as Red Hot, the jazz choir, kicked off the spring concert.
“From the second they started singing, I knew it was going to be a good concert,” sophomore Stephanie Pizio said.
The Spring Choir Concert, held March 31, featured many songs by the schools’ choirs. Red Hot, Saber Singers, Versailles and Voices of the Pride each performed four to five songs ranging from “Trashin’ the Camp,” a song from “Tarzan,” to “Barbagal,” a folk song of the Italian Alps.
“Red Hot was my favorite,” Pizio said. “They are very upbeat and fun to listen to.”
Not all the music was in English. Saber Singers performed a song, “Oye la Música,” which had Spanish incorporated into the song.
“I was pleasantly surprised at their large variety in songs,” sophomore Justin Linnenberg said.
In addition to the singers, there was a rhythm section comprised of a pianist, a drummer and a bassist.
“They really complimented each other,” sophomore Nick Powers said.
At the end of the concert, all the groups came together as a mass choir. “Seeing them all join together to sing as one was really cool,” Pizio said. “It really showed their unity as the Castle View choir.”
The concert was sponsored by Cold Stone, which served ice cream at the end, with some profits going to the Performing Arts Program.
