The cliche the ‘show must go on’ seems to have become a motto for the Castle View Theatre Company. Over the years, actors have spent hours throwing up in the dressing rooms backstage during the show. “Last year during a Legally Blonde performance, it was during the first act I had to just skip across the stage singing but as I was skipping my knee popped out,” said Vitoria Dante ‘16 “I kept singing but instead of skipping I had to limp off stage to quickly ice it, change my costume and finish the show.”
Not only have students had to keep the show going, but even teachers have helped out in certain shows. Ms. Gentry once had to dress up like a man and perform a dance on stage because there were no understudies, but this year finding a solution had almost seemed impossible.
Ramon Alvarez ‘16 is cast as the lead male role of Beast in the upcoming production of Beauty and the Beast and has recently broken his ankle. “At the moment it happened I was just in shock, but shortly after it set in I knew there were some things that needed to be changed in order to make things work,” said Ramon, “I was worried at first, but I was determined to do what I can to keep the show going smoothly.” Many people ran around worrying about this problem and possible ways to fix it. “I was worried to see how it would all turn out. I was thinking about possible people that could fill in for Ramon, but all of our actors who could do his part already have big roles, so I thought the only solution would be to either cancel or postpone the play,” said Lachlan Fordyce ‘16.
Thankfully, the theatre company was able to come up with a solution to the whole ordeal. “We are planning on making crutches to go with my costume then hopefully transition to just one crutch using it more as a cane if that becomes possible. But as of right now we are changing some things to make it work still,” said Alvarez.
