Anti-Love?

Valentine’s day is celebrated in many different ways and it not always focused on a significant other

Valentine’s Day is supposed to be spent with your partner and be romanticized while having a nice dinner, surprising each other with gifts. “Well…for most of the human population”, “around 75% of people are not in a committed relationship or even looking for one”, according to The AARP Foundation

For some high school students like sophomores Caleigh Sommers and Kinsey Bratz, Valentine’s Day isn’t all about spending time with that special someone, but rather with family and friends.

“My parents usually get each other things and sometimes they get us candy or something. We don’t hype it up as much as birthdays, it’s really not that big of a deal. We won’t make a cake or dress nice or anything like that,” said Sommers.

Along with Sommers, Bratz does not celebrate with anyone special, just her family members.

“My parents usually give my brother and I a box of chocolates and that’s about it,” said Bratz. Like the Sommer’s family the parent’s will just give their kids some type of goodie like chocolates or heart shaped desserts.

Valentine’s Day is celebrated differently with everyone depending on if you have a Valentine yourself. For most it’s just another holiday that you might get some chocolates on or a little card with some pink and red hearts from your friends or family.
