Feels Like Home

Junior Beau Durkin talks about his commitment to Virginia Military Institute

Junior Beau Durkin from the lacrosse team recently committed to Virginia Military Institute (VMI), where he will continue to further his academic and lacrosse journey. Durkin is very excited to be attending one of his top-choice schools.

“I can’t wait to go to college. I also can’t wait to start playing lacrosse there, because their program is very good and I love playing my favorite sport. VMI was also kind of my dream school. My high school lacrosse coach went there for about a year, so he was a big influence on why I chose this college,” Durkin said.

Durkin has put in a lot of work to make this dream come true. Durkin attends lacrosse weights class after school every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. Durkin also practices shooting the ball on  senior Trent Bratz after weights class to get every better at what he loves.

“I had a couple of other schools talking to me, but none of them were as good as VMI because VMI is a military school and a military school is where I really wanted to go. I feel like a military school fits me and my personality very well because my dad is very hard on me and always wants me to get better.”

Lacrosse has been a big part of Durkin’s life and will continue to have an effect on him as a person as he continues to play lacrosse throughout his college career. Durkin is slowly but surely making his academic and lacrosse dream come true.
