CATS hour was considered by many to be one of the best parts of the 2021-2022 school year. The replacement however, is not as popular. Although students are accused of not utilizing the CATS hour time, junior Maddie Hobbs shares that CATS hour was the perfect time to go meet with teachers and have a focused one-on-one session with administrators for learning purposes.

“With travel advisement, when you have to go in to meet with the teacher their whole advisement class is also in the room and it’s extremely distracting. The teacher is trying to focus on both teaching the student and monitoring their advisement class,” Hobbs said.

This was also said to be the case with a lot of the club time as well.

“Usually we would hang out with our friends and go get food or coffee somewhere. It was a nice break mixed in with our weekly schedules. When we did need to meet with teachers, it was a very quiet and focused space. The only people in the room are the people who are trying to learn,” Hobbs said.

This leads  to our end question: do students prefer CATS hour or travel advisement?

“I think everyone would rather have CATS hour in their schedule rather than travel advisement. No one really utilizes the travel Advisement time. Instead of wasting two hours in a week, why not waste only one, but let the students go off campus and get out of the way for the students that actually need to meet with teachers,” Hobbs replied.

Based on Hobbs’s viewpoint, CATS hour was much better than its new replacement, travel advisement.
