Hearts are pounding, the crowd is roaring, and Castle View’s own varsity cheer team is in the zone.
On Friday December 5,Varsity Cheer got off to a rough start. After having a coed heal stretch come down early and sign being stepped on, the team was panicking about not being able to qualify for finals. “It was kind of disappointing. They were such trivial mistakes that we don’t usually have happen, so it was unfortunate. But we are truly a family so no one was mad about them happening, including our coaches,” said Linsday Alfano 17‘.
After what seemed like an endless wait, the judges were ready to announce final scores. When Castle View was announced as state champions with a score of 89.775, varsity erupted with screams. State is scored out of a total of a 100 points and the competition was a close call with Mountain Vista scoring 88.725.
This team was the first at Castle View to place first at state. “Winning state was the greatest experience of my life,” said Jackson Chase 16’. “Winning a state competition was my dream, our dream, and we succeeded.”
The team is very proud of their state championship title and is excited to see what else is in store for them. “We’ve had a great year this year and are so excited for future competitions. I think we all have high expectations for this team and we continue to meet them,” said Logan Swanson 17’.
