The View –
The first Thursday in December kicked off a new Castle View tradition — Rally Cat Thursdays — that student government hopes will bring new energy to school spirit by acknowledging student accomplishments throughout the year.
“We definitely think there’s a need for more events that can increase spirit around the school,” student government president Madison Malsch said.
Rally Cat Thursdays will be themed so people can dress up and get excited about Castle View. The theme for the first pep rally on Dec. 4 was Blizzard Day and those who who dressed up received free doughnuts. Student government also picked the best dressed boy and the best dressed girl and they received a T-shirt exclusive to Rally Cat Thursday.
At the Dec. 4 pep rally, events happened rapid-fire. The cheerleaders performed, students played a game that combined musical chairs and basketball, then poms put on a show.
Senior Madison Laufenburg was acknowledged for her selection as an Under Armour All-America Volleyball honorable mention, the softball team for making it to the state semi-finals, and softball coach Caley Mitchell for winning Continental League coach of the year.
But students filled only one side of the bleachers.
“I think it could be fun but none of us know what it’s about,” said Ashley Chapa, a senior. “Students aren’t going to go, but if there were more hype they might.”
Student government hopes that as Rally Cat Thursdays become more known, more of the school will attend and participate.
Senior Jacqueline Burrier came and even dressed up.
“I went because I wanted to have school spirit and show everyone that you’re not lame if you do that kind of stuff,” she said. “I think it would be a cool tradition because I think the school spirit is lacking, and so it will be good to get more people involved.”
