After an arduous season, six wrestlers from the Castle View team attended wrestling state held at the Pepsi Center in Denver. This three-day event brought together the best wrestlers in the entire state to dual for a state title.
The six wrestlers that were in attendance of state wrestling were Bailey Fitzgerald, Malik Heinselman, Justin Lien, Adrian Marquez, Tate Samuelson, and Dominic Ursetta. Among the wrestlers that attended state this year, two are nationally ranked in their division: Malik Heinselman, ‘18 and Tate Samuelson, ‘18.
Wrestling all the way to finals in the 106-weight class, Malik Heinselman,’18 walked away with 1st place, and a state champion title. “Winning state was a big accomplishment for me. This whole season I worked hard and stayed focused. I felt like I earned something that I have been dreaming about my whole life,” said Heinselman. Heinselman’s record is 44-1.
Tate Samuelson, ’18 wrestling in the 160-weight class competed and earned a 2nd place in the 5A division. “Making it to state was a good feeling but I didn’t really think about making it to state since I was so focused on placing or winning. I’m going to enjoy the time I have off, but yes I’m excited for was will come for me next season,” said Tate Samuelson, ‘18.
Samuelson’s record is 42-6.
The wrestling season has come to an end, with titles that make next year an anticipated season already. “It’s one of the most exciting things. It’s the top 16 kids in the state competing for what we trained for all year. You’re nervous of course but at the same time you’re fully prepared for the fight,” said Justin Lien ‘17.
